Transport yourself back to the golden age of travel with this stunning 1972 Tourist Map of NZ, a vibrant piece of graphic design and history that captures the essence of the 70s. Originally drawn by the Department of Lands & Survey for the New Zealand Tourist and Publicity Department, this vintage map celebrates the country as a "South Pacific Wonderland." It is a masterclass in illustration, using a retro aesthetic to guide visitors through the natural splendor of both the North Island and South Island. The map serves as a visual guide to the most iconic tourist destinations of the era. In the North Island, it highlights the geothermal marvels of Rotorua, the serene expanse of Taupo, and the mystical glow-worm displays of the Waitomo Caves. The rugged peaks of Tongariro National Park stand out as a central landmark, while the coastal waters beckon with the promise of world-class big game fishing. This historic print doesn't just show locations; it tells the story of a nation proud of its unique landscape and adventurous spirit. Journeying to the South Island, the map intricately details the dramatic Southern Alps and the West Coast. From the therapeutic hot springs of Hanmer Springs to the icy majesty of the Franz Josef Glacier and Fox Glacier, every corner is brought to life with mid-century charm. The deep fiords of Milford Sound and the towering summit of Mt Cook are depicted as the ultimate alpine escapes, making this retro print a nostalgic reminder of the rugged beauty that has defined Tourism NZ for decades. Whether you are looking for unique interior art or thoughtful gifts, these vintage prints offer a timeless appeal. This map is more than just cartography; it is a piece of art that makes for perfect gifts for mum, gifts for dad, gifts for grandad, or gifts for grandma. Its distinctive 70s flair also makes it a cool, conversational piece of decor and a great choice for gifts for a boyfriend or gifts for a girlfriend who loves travel and new zealand maps.
