Captured in 1967, this striking piece of black and white photography offers a nostalgic window into the Auckland of the 1960s. Looking out from the residential heart of Mt Eden, the perspective sweeps across the iconic volcanic peak toward the distant, unmistakable silhouette of Rangitoto Island. This aerial photography print beautifully documents the era of suburban sprawl, showcasing a unique architectural blend of historic villas and the emerging rows of state housing that defined the mid-century New Zealand landscape. The grid pattern of the streets and roads—including the famous stretch of Dominion Road—creates a mesmerizing geometric pattern that highlights the growth of Auckland City. As a genuine historical photograph, it honors the heritage of Puketāpapa and the surrounding suburbs, offering a timeless aesthetic that fits perfectly with any interior art style. Whether you are a fan of vintage prints or new zealand photography, this piece serves as a sophisticated addition to any collection of historic prints. This print also makes for a deeply personal and thoughtful gift, especially for those with a connection to the city's history. It is an ideal choice when looking for gifts for mum, dad, grandad, or grandma who may remember the 60s firsthand, or as unique gifts for a boyfriend or girlfriend who appreciates retro style and local art. Evocative and rich in detail, this work brings the storied past of Mt Eden directly into the modern home.
